A watercolour showing a view of a villa in a mountain landscape. The villa is shown in the foreground, to the right, with its gardens in the centre. Mountains are shown in the background to the left.
Princess Louise stayed at Pension Wallis, Lucerne, with her mother, Queen Victoria, from 7 August to 9 September 1868. The Queen wanted to see the Alps, which her beloved Prince Albert had visited before their marriage, and her doctors had also advised the Queen that the fresh air would be good for her health. During their stay, the royal party made many day trips to local beauty spots.
This drawing is housed in an album of drawings by Princess Louise. For other items in the volume see Princess Louise Album. -
