A pencil drawing with watercolour wash showing the River Dee. The river is shown snaking through the centre of the landscape. Forest covered hills are shown to the right with mountains shown in the background. Inscribed below pasted down sheet: View down the Dee towards Abergeldie from Craig Gowan. Sept: 1849. Inscribed lower right: VR del from a sketch Windsor C. 1850. While staying at Balmoral, Queen Victoria made many visits to local beauty spots. On 15 September 1849, the Queen went on a deer stalking trip with her husband, Prince Albert. They started at the top of Craig Gowan before moving further afield.
