A watercolour showing the River Dee as it flows through the Balmoral Estate. The river is shown in the foreground, with a small house shown on the far river bank, to the left. A forest is shown to the right with mountains shown in the background. Inscribed below pasted down sheet: View from the walk near the Dee in Balmoral Grounds. Inscribed lower right: VR began Sept: 1848 & finished Aug: 25 1849. While staying at Balmoral, Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. In her journal entry of 25 August 1849, the Queen describes how she "Sat sketching by the riverside".
