A watercolour showing the Old Mole on the Island of Alderney, Guernsey. The sea is shown in the foreground with a small building shown on the far shore. Inscribed below pasted down sheet: The Old Mole Alderney - VR del on board the V. & Albert. Aug: 8. 1854. On 8 August 1854, Queen Victoria and her family sailed to Alderney Island from Osborne on the Royal Yacht, Victoria & Albert. They anchored overnight in Bray Bay. In her journal entry of 8 August 1854, Queen Victoria describes the Island as "very rocky & barren, but very picturesque".
