A watercolour showing a view of a Ship near Cherbourg Harbour. The sea is shown in the foreground, with the ship shown in the centre. A smaller sailing boat is shown to the left. Inscribed lower left: Cherbourg March 26. 1880. Queen Victoria stayed in the Villa Hohenlohe, Baden-Baden, from 26 March to 15 April 1880. The Villa Hohenlohe, formally the Villa Delmar, was left to Queen Victoria by her half-sister, Princess Feodore of Leiningen on her death in 1872. The Queen left Windsor Castle on 25 March 1880, travelling to Portsmouth where the royal party boarded the Royal Yacht. The Victoria & Albert arrived at Cherbourg Harbour that evening and anchored there overnight before continuing to Baden-Baden by train the next day.
