  • A watercolour showing a view of broom flowers in a Highland landscape near the Cambus o' May Suspension Foot Bridge. The broom shrubs are shown to the right of a path in the foreground, with trees shown behind and to the left of the path. Highland hills are shown in the background. Inscribed lower left: Near to the Suspension bridge June 12. 1868. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 12 June 1868 the Queen and her daughter Princess Louise went to the Cambus o' May Suspension Foot Bridge. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how they "tried to sketch the effect of the brilliant broom... which covers the banks like gold. This with the bright fresh green of the trees & the blue hills, is most lovely".
