A watercolour showing a view from the road to Invercauld from above the Garbh-allt-Shiel. Snow-topped mountains are shown in the background with trees shown in the foreground. Inscribed lower left: June - 2. 1864. Inscribed below pasted in sheet: From the road [?to] Invercauld - From above the Dansic [Danzig Shiel]. June 2. 1864 - While staying at Balmoral, Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. The Queen records in her journal entry of 2 June 1864 how she went "Out with [Princess] Louise & sketched." also describing how "The snow [had] much melted away from the hills".
