A watercolour showing a view of a Highland landscape from the Meall an t-Slugain. Continued on RCIN 980037.ap verso. A hill is shown in the foreground, sloping down from the left, with further hills shown behind. Mountains are shown in the background. Inscribed below mounted sheet: From the Sluggan [sic] June 5. 1865. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 5 June 1865 the Queen rode up the Meall an t-Slugain with her daughter Princess Helena. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how they "Took our tea a little way down, in a sheltered spot & then sketched".
