A watercolour showing a view of a Highland landscape from Loch Muick. The loch is shown in the foreground to the right, with a path shown on the banks to the left. The Coyles of Muick are shown in the background. Inscribed below mounted sheet: The Choils [sic] from Loch Muick Oct: 7. 1864. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 7 October 1864 the Queen visited the Allt-an-Guibhsaich Shiel with her daughters Princess Helena and Princess Beatrice. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how they "Drove to the Loch & there took our lunch on the side of the road".
