A watercolour showing a view of the sea, towards the coast of France. A small rowing boat can be seen on the water. Inscribed lower left: Eveg: looking towards French coast - Franville. VR. V&A. Aug. 13. 1859.
Queen Victoria visited Jersey with Prince Albert and four of their children from 12 August to 15 August 1859. They travelled from Osborne and stayed on the Royal Yacht, Victoria and Albert. On 13 August 1859, the Royal Family made a day trip to St. Helier, visiting the Elizabeth Castle and Victoria College. Queen Victoria records the visit in her journal entry of that day, describing how after returning to the Royal Yacht in the evening "Albert went out rowing in a boat". -
