A further figure is shown walking behind the cart to the right. A woman is shown to the right, from behind, carrying a large basket on her back. Inscribed below: Market Day. Coburg. Oct: 6 - 1860. From 22 September to 17 October 1860, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert travelled to Germany with their second daughter Princess Alice to visit their married daughter Victoria, Princess Royal. They stayed in the Palace at Coburg from 25 September to 10 October 1860. Queen Victoria took a particular interest in ethnography and national costumes and when travelling she regularly sketched peasants in local dress.
