Queen Victoria visited Ireland for the first time in August 1849. The Queen arrived at the Cove of Cork on 2 August 1849 after sailing from Osborne with Prince Albert and their four eldest children the day before. The Royal family then sailed up to Waterford on 4 August 1849. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how, while anchored in Waterford Harbour, "Albert decided on going up to Waterford... but as I was feeling rather tired, I preferred remaining quietly on board, & sketching". -
