Queen Victoria made her first visit to Ireland in August 1849. She sailed up the east coast of Ireland before sailing across to Scotland, and down the River Clyde to Glasgow on the Royal Yacht, Victoria & Albert. In her journal entry of 13 August 1849, Queen Victoria records sailing on Loch Long which she describes as "so beautiful". -
