A watercolour showing Queen Victoria's second son, Prince Alfred dressed in a sailor costume. He is shown full-length, standing with his hands in his pockets and facing left in profile.
Inscribed below: Alfred. VR del. Aug: 9 - 1847
Prince Alfred was dressed in a sailor suit for his third birthday on 6 August 1847, Queen Victoria describes him as looking "such a darling" in his suit, which matched the one worn by his older brother Albert Edward, Prince of Wales.
This drawing was used as a partial study for an etching (Scott-Elliott no. 61). -
