A watercolour showing a bust-length portrait of the Scottish woman Mrs Fraser. She is shown facing left with a dark shawl wrapped around her shoulders. Inscribed below: Mrs Fraser. Inscribed lower right: VR del - Balmoral Sept: 27. 1850.
Mrs Fraser was a tenant on the Balmoral Estate. Queen Victoria describes in her journal entry of 26 September 1849 how she "tried to sketch Mrs Fraser & her little boy. Unfortunately I was not successful, which grieves me, as she is so remarkably handsome" before trying again the next year. -
