Osborne House, on the Isle of Wight, was purchased by Queen Victoria in 1843. The property offered a retreat for the royal family, but the house proved inadequate. Cubitt’s design for the new Osborne shows the family Pavilion, to the left, and the Household Wing, where members of the Household were accommodated, to the right.
