A carved wood throne or Agua, decorated with embossed copper strips and squares. Geometric shapes are carved in the pedestal below the bowed seat. This Agua is a traditional Ghanaian stool, symbolising Oman-keraa (the soul of society). The seat of the stool is in the shape of an Oseramfa (a crescent moon) symbolising the warmth of a mother's embrace.
Provenance
Presented to Queen Elizabeth II by Otumfuo Opoku Ware II Asantehene, King of the Ashanti, during a visit to Ghana in 1972.
