Stephanie Correia (1930-2000) was one of Guyana's leading ceramicists. Her work did much to draw attention to the decorative possibilities of earthenware, and Indigenous motifs drawn from nature were central to her work. Correia was known for her use of white and cream slip, which she then extended to black and brown. In addition to exhibiting internationally and working with the Lama Craft Group, she was awarded the Medal of Service (1980) and the Golden Arrow of Achievement (1996) by the Government of Guyana.Provenance
Presented to Queen Elizabeth II by Mr. Forbes Burnham, President of the Republic of Guyana, and Mrs. Burnham on the occasion of the wedding of The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer, 29 July 1981.
