A watercolour view of the seafront and beach at Broadstairs during a storm, with two waterspouts and ships in the distance. Signed with the monogram 'H B'. Mounted on a piece of brown cardboard with a double ink line border. An inscription by Lt-Col. Bernard giving the title and date as above is on the verso of this mount. In 1836 Princess Victoria stayed for some weeks near Ramsgate with her mother The Duchess of Kent. They dined with Lt-Col. Barnard and his family at least four times during their stay, and the Princess made a sketch of one of Barnard's sons.
