In the Mediterranean during the 1862 tour, the Royal Yacht Osborne was escorted by other British ships. HMS Magicienne was under the command of Ernst 4th Prince of Leiningen, the son of Queen Victoria’s half-brother Carl. Ernst had joined the royal party onshore in Constantinople. The frigate HMS Doris was commanded by Sir Leopold McClintock, the renowned Arctic explorer.
