A watercolour of the arrival of Queen Victoria at St Paul's Cathedral, surrounded by crowds. On the final day of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations, Queen Victoria processed from Buckingham Palace to St Paul's, she remained seated in her carriage for 20 minutes while a Thanksgiving Service was held. Queen Victoria describes the event depicted here in her journal 'In front of the Cathedral, the scene was most impressive (...) My carriage, surrounded by all the Royal Princes was drawn up close to the steps, where the Clergy were assembled. The Bishops in rich copes, with the croziers(...) each holding a very fine one.' (Journal, 22 June, 1897.)
