A watercolour view of the Zeil at Frankfurt, with a column of troops marching down the street watched by passers on the pavement. Signed and dated 'Reiffenstein. Frankfurten 1850'.
This watercolour depicts the main shopping street of Frankfurt. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert stayed in Frankfurt during their first trip to Germany in the summer of 1845, and then returned again in 1860. The Queen's first impressions of the town were very favourable; she thought it "beautiful and gay looking", and remarked upon the wide streets and fine houses and shops.
