For the second Bal Costumé at Buckingham Palace the guests dressed in the fashions of 1745. Haghe’s watercolour shows the duc and duchesse de Nemours, the guests of honour, dancing a minuet with their hosts. The press referred to the ‘graceful flitting forms’ of this royal dance.
