Paul Sandby (1731-1809)
The back of Burcher's House at Bishopsgate, Old Windsor Wood 1798
Pencil and watercolour | 16.0 x 28.1 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 917872
-
A pencil and watercolour drawing of a cottage behind a wooden fence, seen between two trees. Inscribed in pencil in a later hand on the mount sheet: 'P.S. from E.T'., and 'Back of Burcher's House, Bishopgate, Old Windsor Wood, 1798 (part of a larger Drawing)'.
Sandby made many watercolours of Windsor Great Park, in the later period of his life visiting his brother Thomas and their grandchildren at Windsor and Englefield Green. This drawing is apparently taken from the Bishopsgate estate that borders the Great Park.
