Richmond, from below the bridge
Pen and ink with watercolour, lightly squared in pencil | 22.6 x 38.4 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 917054
-
A watercolour drawing of Richmond in Surrey, from below the bridge. A horse and cart are in the river to the right. Although purchased by George IV (when Prince of Wales) as a drawing by Dayes, and tentatively ascribed to that artist by Oppé, the draughtsmanship is not of a high quality, and the attribution has been doubted.
Provenance
Purchased by George IV when Prince of Wales from Colnaghi & Co., 18 July 1808 (Royal Archives GEO/MAIN/27465, 'A Drawing View of Richmond by Dayes, £3 3s').
