Lady Chambers c. 1770 - c. 1780
Pencil, pen and ink and wash | 18.7 x 12.4 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 914433
-
A pencil and wash drawing of a seated female figure, knitting. One of three studies in the Royal Collection probably showing the same sitter, Lady Chambers (RCINs 914409, 914434). Lady Chambers has not been identified, but is possibly the wife of the architect Sir William Chambers, who married in 1752 and was knighted in 1771, or the wife of Sir Robert Chambers. A drawing in the Royal Collection (RCIN 914408) is catalogued by A. P. Oppé as 'Sir Samuel Chambers', but the sitter has not been identified.
