A watercolour view of Manikarnika Ghat on the river, with temple and steps in the river on right bank. The title as given on the washed mount.
William Daniell travelled to India in 1785 with his nephew Thomas and the two men remained there until 1793. On their return both artists published prints of views of their time in India. This drawing may have been made in India or on the artist's return to England. A depiction of the same subject by Daniell was recorded in the Blue or Indian Room at Mr Henry Thomas Hope's house in Portland Street, London, in 1833 (see The Court Journal, 7 September 1833).Provenance
