A careful brush drawing of Christ holding an orb with both hands, seated on a throne, the supports in the form of sphinxes. Inscribed in a later hand on the verso: 'Gian: Bellino.' The intended purpose for this study is unknown.
Brush and ink darwings on blue paper were common in Venice and the Veneto by the end of the fifteenth century – a similar study by Montagna executed in the same materials, of a full length male figure, is in the Ashmolean, Oxford (Parker 25); another comparable study of the Risen Christ by Montagna was sold by Christie’s, New York, 23 March 2002, lot 21.
