A print reproducing, with many variations, a detail of the decoration of the pilaster between the fifth and sixth bays of the Loggia, designed by Raphael and executed by his workshop (c.1517-19) in the Vatican. Lettered at the top with text in German. Trimmed from the titlepage of Der Deutschen Akademie, Zweiter Theil (Nuremberg, 1675). Annotated on verso.
The repeating sequence of decoration in the Logge - see Dacos 2008 (Bibliographic References) for more information - is strongly influenced by the antique; Raphael had studied antique sculpture and painting in Rome.Provenance
