An etching by Pietro Santi Bartoli reproducing, in reverse, the almost entirely destroyed fresco The Resurrection painted by the workshop of Raphael (c.1517-19) in the basamento of the twelfth bay of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican. Lettered with a Bible quote (Matthew 28). Signed by Bartoli and numbered at lower right: 12. Trimmed within platemark. On watermarked paper. Published in Imagines veteris ac novi Testamenti in Vaticani Palatii (1675).
According to Dacos (see Bibliographic References), the basamento paintings of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican were executed in grisaille and imitated bronze reliefs.Provenance
