A lithograph by Piloty reproducing a detail from a drawing, once probably in Munich, after the figures of Moses and Aaron for the almost entirely destroyed fresco The gathering of manna painted by the workshop of Raphael (c.1517-19) in the basamento of the eighth bay of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican. Lettered with attribution of the composition to Raphael and signed by the printmaker. Published in Christian von Mannlich, Les Oeuvres Lithographiques, (1811-16), vol. 2, 19
Les Oeuvres Lithographiques reproduced drawings then in the collection of the King of Bavaria.
According to Dacos (see Bibliographic References), the basamento paintings of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican were executed in grisaille and imitated bronze reliefs.Provenance
