A woman seated c.1510-30
Engraving | 9.0 x 6.6 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852331
-
An engraving copying a print which was attributed by Bartsch to a pupil of Marcantonio Raimondi. Lettered at the lower left: "COGNITIO DEI". This print has been recently attributed to Barthel Beham (see Bibliographic References). Trimmed within the platemark.
The print depicts a seated woman, possibly after Raphael and derives from an engraving by Marcantonio Raimondi (see RCIN 852330). This is the second copy after one of two repetitions that Bartsch lists as related to the original print by Raimondi.
Some scholars have dated the drawing to the time of the Stanza di Eliodoro (c.1511-14), while others relate it to the "intimate subjects" executed by Raphael c.1512-13 (see Bibliographic References).Provenance
Added to the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1853-76)
