The Virgin lifting a veil, and the Infant Baptist dated 1824
Etching with plate-tone | 28.0 x 21.3 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851305
-
A facsimile etching reproducing two pen and ink sketches attributed on plate to Raphael. The print is a joint production. W. Russell (whose initials are in the lower right corner: WR) seems to be responsible for the figure of the standing child, another hand (initials at centre left: ELHR) for the figure of the Virgin Mary lifting a veil. Dated.
The print shows the half-length Virgin, with her head turned to the right, lifting a veil (top left), and the Infant Baptist, standing, in profile to the right, with hands clasped in prayer (lower centre).Provenance
