A facsimile of a drawing by Raphael (c.1505) now in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no.3856 v). Lettered with production details. With the blind stamp of the Chalcographie du Louvre at lower centre (not in Lugt, but variant of Lugt 1695). Photographs of this drawing can be found at: RCIN 850898 and 851250.
At upper left is a study for a Virgin and Child composition. At centre right is a sketch copied from Michelangelo’s Taddei Tondo, a circular relief sculpture now housed in the Royal Academy of Arts, London. Ruland (1876) did not describe this drawing as a copy after Michelangelo and associated it with Raphael’s Bridgewater Madonna (c.1507) currently on loan to the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh (inv. no.NGL 065.46) from the Duke of Sutherland Collection.Provenance
