The Virgin and Child with Flowers published 1803
Etching | 11.8 x 9.6 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850746
-
An outline-etching thought to reproduce a painting now in the collection of the Earl of Pembroke, Wilton House, Wiltshire (see Bibliographic References). Lettered with attribution of the painting to Rapahel. Published in C.P. Landon, Vie et Œuvre complète de Raphaël Sanzio, 1803, no.426. An etching by Jean Morin, presumably after the same painting, can be found at RCIN 850745.
The composition of the painting reproduced in this print shows similarities with Raphael's so-called Madonna dei Garofani (or Madonna of the Pinks), a painting now in the National Gallery, London (inv. no.NG 6596). See RCIN 850738 for a print reproducing the painting.
Showing the seated Virgin holding the Christ Child seating on a cushion on her knees and offering her a rose; in an interior.Provenance
