An engraving after the Holy Family under a Palm Tree, a painting by Raphael (c.1507), on loan to National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh (inv. no.NGL 062.46), from the Duke of Sutherland Collection. With the publishers' blind stamp in lower left corner. Lettered with the title and production details.
As lettered on the print, the painting was then in the possession of Lord Francis Egerton (1800-1857), I Earl of Ellesmere. When catalogued by Ruland (1876), the painting was in the Bridgewater Gallery, property of the Earl of Ellesmere.
Showing the Holy Family resting under a palm tree: the Virgin sits on the right and holds the Christ Child on her right knee and supports Him with her right hand; the Child is further secured to His mother by a veil and reaches for the flowers presented by St Joseph, who kneels down before Him and supports himself with a staff held in his right hand.Provenance
