After a work by the school of Raphael (Urbino 1483-Rome 1520)
The Holy Family with the Infant Baptist and an Angel c.1860-1876
Carbon print | 17.0 x 13.2 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850663
-
A photograph of a pen and ink drawing formerly attributed to Raphael now in the Kupferstichkabinett, Berlin (inv. no.KdZ 2358). According to Ruland (1876), the drawing was then part of the collection of the late Don José de Madrazo, Madrid.
The drawing shows parallels with Raphael’s Terranuova Madonna (c.1504-05; Gemäldegalerie, Berlin, inv. no.247A), and the composition corresponds largely to an arch topped drawing by Raphael now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lille (inv. no.431; see RCIN 850665 for a photograph of the drawing). See RCIN 850660 for a photograph of the Berlin painting.Provenance
Acquired for the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1860-76)
