A hand-coloured print of the French throne on a base with steps either side. The throne has a canopy above it. At the top of the steps on the left stands General Blucher shooting at Napoleon Bonaparte who tumbles down the steps. On the right stands Wellington leading Louis XVIII and his entourage to the throne. Representatives of the allied forces flank the central plume of feathers and flags. In June 1815, allied forces won a decisive victory over the French at the Battle of Waterloo. Napoleon was captured and transported to the island of St Helena, where he was imprisoned. Buildings throughout London were illuminated to celebrate the victory. This print records the picture placed outside Ackermann’s shop, showing the French monarchy being restored as Napoleon is overpowered. Inscribed in the plate: Exhibited at R Ackermann's in the Strand / on the 27 Novr 1815 the day on which / the general peace was celebrated / in London
