A hand-coloured print of a dispute between a Naval veteran and a thin military rake taking place in the bottom of a saw pit; a satire on the rivalry between the army and the navy. Both men are pointing blunderbusses at each other at close range whilst other weapons lie broken and scattered at the bottom of the pit. The workman whose pit they are in, waves his hand in anger. Inscribed in the plate: Rowlandson 1791 / Pub Oct 28 1791 by S.W. Fores N 3 Piccadilly
