A print showing the garden wall of Hougoumont, on the field of Waterloo. Chateau Hougoumont (or Goumont) was to the right of the allied line, and was protected by a high garden wall. The British, Hanoverian and Nassau troops stationed here held the buildings against repeated French attack. The determination of the French to take Hougoumont, and the allies' fierce resistance, proved a serious distraction for Napoleon's forces.
One of a set of twelve prints of the battlefield produced by R Reeve after drawings by Samuel Wharton.Provenance
Probably acquired by George IV when Prince Regent
