The landing point at Eupatoria is visible along the coastline in the far distance (no. 52) as are the heights of the Alma (no. 58). Sebastopol (no. 35) and the surrounding Russian positions are marked in yellow, and the positions of the besieging allies are shown to the south: the British are marked in red, the French in blue and the Turks in green. Balaklava harbour is shown in the foreground. The site of the Battle of Balaklava (no. 56) is directly to the north-east, and Inkerman (no. 57) is closer to Sebastopol to the north.
