An engraving of Robert de Vere (after 1575–1632), soldier in the Dutch army, 19th Earl of Oxford from 1626. A half-length portrait, with pointed mustache and beard, falling lace collar and sash over the armour. Within oval frame with coats of arms at the top corners, ship and sea-horses at the bottom corners. This print is lettered around the portrait: "HONORATISS: ROBERTVS VEERE COMES OXONIÆ DO.N' DE BULBECK / SANDFORD / ET SCALES."; along the bottom: "The Right Honourable and truly Generous, Robert / Veere Earle of Oxford, … / Mastrict, Anno 1632. and left issue two sons. // Are to be sold at ye Vnicorne in Cornehill neare the Exchange by William Riddiard.".
The print formed part of an album of portrait prints assembled by Cassiano and his younger brother Carlo Antonio dal Pozzo in Rome. Described in an early nineteenth-century inventory of prints in George III's library as Heads of English illustrious Personages, the album was dismantled later in the nineteenth century and incorporated into the sequences of British portrait prints in the collection. For more information see Mark McDonald, The Print Collection of Cassiano dal Pozzo.
