The vase is etched with American flowers and trees, including tulips, daylily, arbutus, bluet, bluebells, violets, Joe Pye weed, tobacco, maize, sumac, pine, holly, chestnut, magnolia, hickory and elm. There are also several animals amongst the plants, including a pheasant, a fox, a racoon, and a white-tailed deer.

Presented to Queen Elizabeth II by President Dwight D. Eisenhower of the United States of America during her State Visit to the United States, 17–20 October 1957.
