Crossbow from the Royal Saxon workshops by Johann Gottfried Haenisch (1696-1778).
Tapering steel bow, mahogany curved and tapering stock with ebony stringing and protruding shaped cheekplate, inset and overlaid with engraved and polished stag horn decoration with hippocami, warriors, mermaids, chimera; original cord; six red and white silk pompoms.Provenance
This cross-bow was purchased by George IV when Prince of Wales, from Colonel Benningson, in 1807. -
