For the corresponding portrait of Henrietta Maria, see RCIN 602031.
Charles I and his consort, Henietta Maria (see RCIN 602031) were married in 1625, five weeks after Charles was proclaimed King following the death of his father, James I. Charles I commissioned the Dutch artist Daniel Mytens to paint himself and his new wife, and subsequently sent the portraits to Holland to be engraved by Willem Jacobsz Delff, who was paid '£5 for perusing two pictures of ye King and Queene in black and white to be cut in brasse.'
