A large, silver-gilt tankard with a hinged cover, foliate thumbpiece, double scroll handle with a band of beading, and cushion foot; decorated throughout with inlaid coins, on a field of embossed foliage and interlaced scrolls, with an applied royal coat of arms.
The coins include pieces from the Netherlands, Denmark, Portugal and India as well as British coins dating from the reign of James I to the reign of George II. They include:
an Indian mohur, a Dutch ducat, a gold moidore, Indian pagoda coins, a Charles I crown, James I gold laurels, broad-pieces from the reigns of James I and Charles I, a Charles II 2 guinea piece, several George II 2 guinea pieces and a Charles II 5 guinea piece.Provenance
