-
Two silver-gilt octagonal baluster-shaped sugar casters, each with a baluster finial and cover pierced with flower heads and vases, on a moulded octagonal foot. The side is engraved with a crowned coat of arms and AR monogram.
Provenance
One of these casters seems to have been in the Collection since the reign of Queen Anne. The other caster was part of the plate taken by Ernest, Duke of Cumberland to Hanover in 1837. It was bought by Queen Mary at the sale of the Cumberland Collection at Christie's, London in 1923. She presented it to King George V that Christmas. In 1925 he asked for it to be reunited with its pair.
