A drawing of the young Princess Charlotte, seated on a balustrade, and Princess Caroline, who stands and supports her daughter. Engraved in stipple by Bartolozzi and published in 1799 (see RCIN 605333).
Identified by Stephen Lloyd as the item entitled 'A Drawing of [The Princess of Wales] and Prs. Charlotte', annotated as having been charged for in 1797, on folio 222r of the manuscript inventory (from 1820) listing unpaid commissions and the possessions of Richard and Maria Cosway and dated 1820 (Walpole Society Journal, CXVI, 2004).Provenance
Commissioned in 1797; a note in the Lord Chamberlain's Inventory records that this piece was presented by the Princess of Wales to Lady Willoughby d'Eresby; in the Royal Collection by 1883-87 during which period it was transferred to the Royal Library.
