A watercolour showing King George V and Queen Mary in regalia seated on thrones under large canopied dais during the Delhi Durbar of 1911. An Indian dignitary presents the King and Queen with a sword. At either side of the dias, digintaries are shown in attendance.
A conspicuous display of imperial power, the Dehli Durbar of 1911 marked George V’s succession as King Emperor of India. It also celebrated the transfer of the capital city from Calcutta to Dehli, and the reversal of the partition of Bengal. -
