Watercolour portrait of Agyle Agha by Carl Haag (1820-1915). The portrait shows Agyle Agha, wearing a long white gown and headress, seated on a low sofa with a small ornate table next to him containing a tea set. The watercolourist Carl Haag had travelled through the Middle East in the late 1850s. He met Agyle Agha on 28 July 1859 to sketch him. Many years later, in 1899, Haag gave his portrait of Agyle Agha to the Prince of Wales as a birthday present. The Prince of Wales had visited Agyle Agha on his tour of the Middle East in 1862, and had commissioned Haag to paint the scene on his return.
